Race Retro

The Association exhibited at Race Retro for the fifth year, the difference was that 2012 was a joint effort with our friends from F3 Historic. This year was to be Lotus themed, but unfortunately Jim Chapman’s Lotus 59 had not recovered from its Dijon excitement, so Andrew Thorpes’ immaculate Lotus 31 and Gareth Williams’ Lotus 41 were joined by John Counsell’s March 703 which was newly resplendent in its original Petonyer Racing colours. Among the many interested visitors was Andrew Marriot who was Team Manager for Petonyer in 1970 who recalled a somewhat hectic year. Saturday night also saw the annual Dinner and prize giving which goes from strength to strength; the F3 Historic European Trophy being presented to Roland Fischer while the Peter Hanson award went to Nigel Bancroft.

Cadwell Park

Closing date for entries is March 29th, so if your entry isn’t in yet it needs to be as grids are restricted to twenty eight cars. April 21st and 22nd will see the second running of the Justin Haler Trophy which will again be solely for One Litre F3s; HSCC will as usual be running the Classic Racing Cars so if you are feeling particularly energetic there is the chance of four outings.

Spa

At date of writing we have a very encouraging entry of eleven people taking advantage of the early entry offer; this offer runs until the end of March so there is still time to make substantial savings.

Bev Bond Sticker Appeal

Many of you will be aware that Bev Bond (our energetic membership secretary) has had problems with two different types of cancer over the last couple of years. To thank the Dorset Cancer Care Centre where he has been treated, Bev is raising funds by the sale of car stickers. The HSCC has kindly approved their appearance on cars running in their championships, and it is suggested that a minimum donation of £5 for two is made by competitors; to the general public they will be £2.50 each. Stickers will be available direct from Bev (contact details for membership secretary) please send cheque and SAE. Stickers will be available at race meetings. Bev would like to thank Andrew Thorpe of The Cubicle Centre Ltd for for their generous help in sponsoring the printing of the stickers

Donington

Donington Park on March 17th saw the first round of the HSCC Classic Racing Cars Championship again supported by The Cubicle Centre Ltd. Five Historic Formula Threes were entered, but practice saw this reduced to three starters, Andrew Thorpe’s March lost its’ clutch release mechanism, whilst Steve Seaman and Rene Ligonnet had an unfortunate coming together exiting the chicane, the Frenchman’s radiator damage putting him out for the day. Stuart Tizzard’s familiar Chevron was quickest ahead of Steve Seaman’s Brabham BT21 and Leif Bosson’s BT28. The race was fairly processional with Tizzard leading from Seaman and Bosson, the only excitement was Hamilton in his twin cam Tecno having the cheek to pass Tizzard, only to be outbraked into Redgate on the last lap, leaving Hamilton charging into the Gravel Trap.
