Race Retro 2015

2015 was the eighth time that the Association had exhibited at what is now one of the most prestigious historic motorsport shows of the year. This year we had the chance to show something different, the first car, Andrew Thorpe’s Brabham BT15 had just finished a full restoration by Jon Waggitt, and was immaculate in side draught specification. In contrast, our second car, Bob Wilson’s Titan Mk. 3 had been stored for almost thirty years, and was making a welcome re-appearance; it is hoped that restoration will commence in the near future. Many thanks to Andrew Thorpe and Bob Wilson for the loan of their cars, and to Jon Waggitt and David Wilson for their help in delivering the cars.

As usual we were able to meet up with many old friends, such as Leif Bosson, Jim Blockley, Klaus Bergs, Steve Seaman, Jon Waggitt,Tony Keele (who once more generously provided us with a magnificent Melton Mowbray pork pie)and Andrew Tart whose Merlyn re-build is slowly progressing, as well as with new members who are hoping to join us for the 2015 season; exciting news is that two and possibly three Lotus 59’s may be out.

Pilotes Ancien Dave Berry and Ken Crook met up for the first time in over forty years and were soon deep in conversation; Ken’s mechanic, Bob Johnson visited on Sunday, and generously donated some of his period photographs and documents.

Numbers of visitors for both Friday and Saturday were up over the last couple of years, and this year’s calendar of HF3 exclusive double headers attracted a lot of positive comment.

Friday night of Race Retro saw the Association’s annual awards dinner at Wroxall Abbey, once more ably organised by membership secretary Mike Hedger. Full details of Award winners and photos below, sadly Mike Scott and family were absent owing to a mix up over dates, his trophy will presented during the coming season.

We look forward to catching up with you all around the circuits over the coming season.
